ACT Awarded Contract to Develop Pumped Two-Phase Cold Plate to Cool Lockheed Martin’s High Power Laser

Lancaster, Pennsylvania – March 25, 2014 – Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT) announced today that it has been awarded a contract from Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training (LM-MST) to develop a two-phase pumped loop (TPPL) cold plate for the Robust Electric Laser Initiative (RELI) for ground based military vehicles.

Lockheed Martin’s spectral beam combining fiber lasers achieve very high electro-optical efficiencies and require uniform cold plate temperatures with low swap and high thermal efficiencies. ACT has, through a number of R&D programs in the past several years, developed considerable expertise and experience in designing and manufacturing pumped two-phase cold plates for a variety of challenging operating conditions including high heat fluxes, stringent temperature uniformity, multiple discrete heat sources, and military grade shock and vibration. Under the RELI program, ACT will design, build and deliver prototype cold plates and a test bed to Lockheed Martin for fiber laser modules.
