Lancaster, Pennsylvania – January 5, 2009 – Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT) has formally launched a new line of Loop Heat Pipe (LHP) products for spacecraft thermal control. ACT’s Aerospace Products Group now offers complete spacecraft heat pipe products including Constant Conductance Heat Pipes (CCHPs), Variable Conductance Heat Pipes (VCHPs) and LHPs.
The Aerospace Products Group has delivered a number of LHPs in the past several years to military and government satellite programs. “We’re delighted to add the LHP to our satellite thermal control product portfolio,” says John Hartenstine, Manager of the Aerospace Products Group, “We’re ready to deploy our experienced personnel and qualified manufacturing processes to meet the most challenging customer requirements.”
LHPs are self contained, passive, high thermal conductivity devices. Compared to constant conductance heat pipes (CCHPs) that can typically transport 100 to 200 Watts of heat over 1 to 2 meters, LHPs are capable of much higher heat loads and longer distances. LHPs are most commonly used to transfer heat from spacecraft electronics to remotely located radiators. Typical LHPs have aluminum evaporators and condensers and stainless steel transport lines and reservoirs. Ammonia is the most commonly used working fluid for operating temperatures ranging from -40 to 70°C. Propylene and Ethane are used for lower temperature operations. ACT has also developed titanium/water LHPs for operation at temperatures between 70 and 250°C.
ACT is a developer and manufacturer of advanced heat pipes, pumped liquid and two-phase loops, and thermal storage devices. ACT specializes in technology development and custom thermal product design and manufacturing. ACT’s technologies have been used in applications from spacecraft thermal control to catalytic reactor cooling to medical surgery temperature control. ACT’s quality system is certified to ISO9001:2000 and AS9100-B. ACT currently serves customers worldwide in Aerospace, Military, Commercial, and Government R&D markets. Many of these customers are in the Fortune Global 500 list.
