ACT Manufactures HiK™ Aluminum Plates for Military Electronics Cooling Applications

Lancaster, Pennsylvania – October 6, 2008 – Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT) is manufacturing its HiK™ Aluminum Plate products for military electronics customers.

ACT’s HiK™ Aluminum Plate product is an aluminum plate with embedded heat pipes. It is used as a heat spreader and in some cases also a structural member in electronics packaging applications. Traditional aluminum heat spreaders have thermal conductivities around 180W/m- C. Embedding heat pipes increases the effective thermal conductivities by several factors, without negatively affecting the plate’s mass, strength or corrosion resistance. The layout of the embedded heat pipes is optimized for each application. In general, the performance of a HiK™ Aluminum Plate is equivalent to that of the high end composite materials but cost much less to manufacture. The following photos show examples of HiK Aluminum Plates for a variety of electronics cooling applications.

ACT has been designing and manufacturing embedded heat pipe aluminum plates for military and commercial electronics cooling applications for the past several years. The HiK™ Aluminum Plate product was officially named and launched in February 2008, and has received excellent market acceptance, particularly in the military electronics sector. Since then, ACT has received three orders for HiK™ Aluminum Plates, each with potential to reach relatively large production volumes. To respond to the demands, ACT’s Engineering Products and Services Group recently started expanding its manufacturing operation for increased HiK plate production capacity.

ACT is a developer and manufacturer of advanced heat pipes, pumped liquid and two-phase loops, and thermal storage devices. ACT specializes in technology development and custom thermal product design and manufacturing. ACT’s technologies have been used in applications from spacecraft thermal control to catalytic reactor cooling to medical surgery temperature control. ACT currently serves customers worldwide in Aerospace, Military, Commercial, and Government R&D markets. Many of these customers are in the Fortune Global 500 list.
