ACT Reaches $200 Million in Product Sales from SBIR/STTR Seeded Technologies
Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT) announced today that it has more than $200 million in sales from products developed using technology from ACT’s SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) programs. “ACT originally started as a Research and Development Company, with most of our revenues for SBIR and STTR programs,” said Jens Weyant, Vice President for Product and Technology Development at ACT. “Our research and development team continues to serve as the innovation engine of our company, driving new production opportunities and fueling our growth.”
In 2011, ACT was awarded a Tibbets award from the Small Business Administration (SBA). SBA presents the awards nationally to small companies and individuals that have advanced technical innovation and economic growth through its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. “Many of ACT’s products are based on SBIR & STTR programs from a wide range of government departments, demonstrating ACT’s depth of research,” said Bill Anderson, Chief Engineer for R&D at ACT. “This includes the following:
- Constant Conductance Heat Pipes (CCHPs) were developed on a NASA Johnson SBIR, which has expanded to other products such as Loop Heat Pipes (LHPs), Variable Conductance Heat Pipes (VCHPs), and others.
- Space Copper-Water Heat Pipes were developed on a NASA Marshall Phase II SBIR
- ACT’s improved wedgelock, ICE-Lok® was developed on an Air Force SBIR
- ACT’s Pumped Two-Phase cooling products were developed on an NSF SBIR
- ACT’s thermal storage products were developed on an MDA SBIR
R&D Manager Srujan Rokkam noted that “ACT R&D continues to push the frontiers of thermal technologies for unique needs of customers in space, energy, medical, and defense markets, as well as expand into new areas including: Data Center Thermal Management, Advanced Modeling, Electric Aircraft Thermal Management, Carbon Dioxide Management, Non-Thermal Plasmas, Combustion, and Decarbonization. What makes ACT R&D exciting is not just the potential for developing new technologies but being able to see the technology transcend to products and subsequently in-flight or fielded systems”.
