ACT Wins Platinum Award for High Efficiency ECU
Friday, September 9, 2022– Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. announced today that its High EER ECU was recognized among the best by the 2022 Military + Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards. An esteemed and experienced panel of judges from the aerospace and defense community recognized Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc as a Platinum honoree.
“On behalf of the Military + Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate Advanced Cooling Technologies, on their Platinum–level honoree status,” said Military + Aerospace Electronics Editor in Chief John Keller. “This competitive program allows Military + Aerospace Electronics to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products impacting the aerospace and defense community this year.”
Historically, energy efficiency for environmental control units (ECUs) has not been a major consideration for most military applications. In a lot of cases, the cooling system can rely on shore power which poses minimal threat to most military operations if the energy consumption of the cooling equipment is sub-optimal. More recently, there is a substantial push for military equipment to become more mobile and deployable where electrical power sources are derived from fossil fuel-burning generators. In these applications improving energy efficiency can play a significant role in saving the lives of soldiers. Fuel convoys are often targeted by the opposition as a means to weaken forward operating bases. This places a significant price on every ounce of fuel required to be consumed in theater.
ACT has developed a high energy efficiency ratio (EER) ECU to minimize electrical energy consumption for applications that require improved efficiency. The ECU employs a number of techniques commonly used in commercial HVAC units, with a focus on the level of ruggedization required for military applications. Digital compressors, air economizers, and reduced pressure drop evaporator and condenser coils are just some of the technologies employed in the unit to maximize the EER. The result is a highly ruggedized, military ECU that rivals some of the best commercial HVAC systems in energy efficiency.
