ARPA-E Program Director Visits Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc.
Lancaster, Pennsylvania – Dr. Jack Lewnard, Program Director of REMEDY (Reducing Emissions of Methane Every Day of the Year) program at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), recently paid a visit to Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT), a participant in said project. Dr. Lewnard’s visit aimed to review the progress and advancements made by ACT in the development of their cutting-edge Swiss-roll flare gas incinerator technology.
As part of the ongoing efforts to mitigate methane emissions and combat climate change, ARPA-E launched the REMEDY program to fund and support innovative technologies and strategies to reduce methane emissions from the anthropogenic sources. Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. is one of the twelve performers in this program, working diligently to develop a high Destruction and Removal Efficiency (DRE) and low cost solution for marginal wells, as well as other segments of the oil and gas industry.
Due to inconsistent DRE, flaring is often results in the release of methane into the atmosphere. Methane (CH4) is estimated to have a global warming potential of 27-30 over 100 years, which means that methane is 27-30X more potent than CO2. ACT’s Swiss-roll flare gas incinerator is designed to address this issue by combining a novel combustion approach and an advanced high temperature material manufacturing technique to form a revolutionary emissions control device.
During his visit, Dr. Lewnard had the opportunity to witness the demonstration of ACT’s Swiss-roll flare incinerator prototype, gain insights into the Swiss-roll flare gas incinerator’s performance, and discuss the technology-to-market (T2M) plan with ACT’s team. The T2M is essentially converting the innovation to a market product to realize the impact of the program.
ACT’s commitment to innovative solutions is in line with ARPA-E’s mission to support high-impact, transformational energy technologies. The agency continues to invest in projects like ACT’s Swiss-roll flare gas incinerator that have the potential to make a significant difference in the fight against climate change.
